Hi, I'm Brett.

I recently completed my PhD at UC Santa Barbara in the Department of Global Studies. For those unaware, Global Studies is a relatively new interdisciplinary field which examines systems, networks and power dynamics that are involved in world-scale processes.  The processes that I'm interested in, are primarily located at the intersection capitalism and technology.

In particular, I'm interested in the ways that societies and markets develop (or fail to develop) governance approaches to address risks and complexities posed by new and emerging technologies. My current research is centered around big data and artificial intelligence, and my dissertation project is titled: Data Ecologies & The Political Economy of Ambient Intelligence.
